My son was born in August of 07 with HLHS and had his first surgery at 2 days old. Although diagnosed in utero I had no idea what I was going to go through. He handled surgery pretty well but at 4 days old fluid built up around his heart and he coded out. I guess because i was 18 at the time the dr didnt feel the need to get into detail about what had happened until he spoke with my mom. Well he got sent home 2 weeks later and was doing fine until september 07. He needed a blood transfusion, then later caught MRSA. It was a very tough time. I could only feel like I was doing something wrong. Then at 6 months he went and had his second surgery (at CHOP) and did fine! He is now awaiting his third surgery and is doing good!
